Winter break with kids on the Eastside

What is open during winter break, and where to confirm your district's dates.

Winter break lines up across the ten Eastside districts. School calendars lists December 21, 2026 through January 1, 2027 as winter break for Northshore, Riverview, Renton, Lake Washington, Bellevue, Issaquah, Snoqualmie Valley, Mercer Island, Tahoma, and Kent. Confirm your district on that page before you book a camp or a nonrefundable ticket. The page is the month view for no-school days, early release, and breaks.

Indoors

KidsQuest Children’s Museum at 1116 108th Ave NE lists these 2026 holiday hours. Open: Monday, December 21, Monday, December 28, and Thursday, December 31. Closed: Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1. Members are free, and babies under 1 are free. The museum says pricing can change on holidays and school breaks, so check the ticket page for that day. Reservations are encouraged.

King County Library System branches are the easy indoor default. Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond are the three largest near the central Eastside. Break story times and craft programs are not posted this far out. Check the 2026 schedule on the branch page.

Bellevue Aquatic Center at 601 143rd Ave NE is the indoor pool. The city posts the session calendar. Crossroads Community Center at 16000 NE 10th Street has a games room. Confirm the day’s hours.

Parks departments have not posted a 2026 winter-break camp list here. Check the 2026 schedule on your city’s parks page, and the dated events on Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, and the other city pages.

A snow day

Summit at Snoqualmie says the tubing park is scheduled to open for the 2026-27 season on November 21, so it should be in season during break. Sessions are 1 hour and 45 minutes. Tickets are online only, and they include the tube. Riders 44 inches and under must pair with someone 45 inches or taller. A parent or guardian signs the release for anyone under 18. The resort says prices change. Check the 2026 schedule for the day’s sessions and price.

Before you drive, check Snoqualmie Pass conditions. Snow play near the Eastside covers the tubing hill, the Hyak sledding hill, and what to bring.

If the pass is closed, stay with the lights. Best Christmas lights and the Christmas hub are the indoor-evening backup, including Garden d’Lights, which stays open through New Year’s Day except Christmas Day.
