Indoor pools and swim lessons for kids on the Eastside

Where to splash with little kids when it's wet out, which pools run warm, and when each one opens swim lesson sign-up.

A warm pool is the best rainy-day reset we know for little kids. The water temperature matters more than anything else under age 4, so this guide notes it wherever the pool posts it. Many pools ask a grown-up to be in the water, within arm’s reach, with kids under 6, and a swim diaper with a snug cover for anyone not potty trained.

Swim lessons fill fast everywhere. Each pool below says how its sign-up works. Set a reminder for the morning it opens.

Bellevue and Mercer Island

Bellevue Aquatic Center at 601 143rd Ave NE has two indoor pools. Warm Springs is kept at 92° and has a ramp and gradual entry, which makes it the easiest pool on the Eastside for a baby or a nervous toddler. The pool schedule through December 31 shows Warm Springs open swim every day from noon, plus weekday evenings 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The cooler Blue Lagoon (82°) has open swim on some middays and a water slide off the dive tank. Youth 12 and under are $6 a visit and adults $7. Swim lessons, including Parent and Child and Toddler Transition classes, run in monthly sessions. Sign-up for the November session opens October 24 at 3:00 p.m., December opens November 21, and January opens December 19. The center is closed November 26 and 27 and December 24, 25, and 31. Local parents recommend its lessons again and again.

Samena Swim and Recreation Club at 15231 Lake Hills Blvd is a nonprofit club, but you don’t have to be a member to take lessons. Parent-Tot lessons for ages 6 months to 3 years run Saturday mornings in short sessions, and preschool levels start at 2½. Members register first. For non-members, the November and December lessons opened August 21, so watch the page for the next round.

Goldfish Swim School at 4091 Factoria Square Mall SE teaches ages 4 months to 12 years in a 90° pool, with year-round weekly lessons and free make-ups. Its Family Swim is open to the public, with an adult in the water with each child who can’t swim yet.

Bellevue Family YMCA at 14230 Bel-Red Rd is one of the Y pools where members can drop in for recreational swim without a reservation. The Y’s swim lessons start with infants.

Mary Wayte Pool at 8815 SE 40th St on Mercer Island is a public pool kept at 83°. The schedule page has a family swim calendar, no advance booking needed, and you pay by card at the desk. Group lessons start with Parent/Tot for 6 months to 3½ years, then Super Tots for more confident toddlers.

Redmond and Kirkland

Wave Aquatics runs both Redmond Pool at 17535 NE 104th St, in Hartman Park, and Juanita Aquatics Center at 10601 NE 132nd St in Kirkland. Family swim is open to all ages for $7.50 a person, and you book a spot online for the day. Kids 13 and under need an adult along. On weekday mornings, Toddler Swim at Juanita is unstructured splash time for a parent and toddler, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Parent and Child lessons cover 6 months to 3 years. Registration week is the week before each session, opening at 7:00 a.m. Current students go first, then open sign-up is Wednesday to Sunday for Juanita and Thursday to Sunday for Redmond, after Redmond residents.

SafeSplash Redmond, inside 24 Hour Fitness at 7320 170th Ave NE, and SafeSplash Kirkland, inside LA Fitness at 12321 120th Pl NE near Totem Lake, take babies from 4 months, with ongoing monthly enrollment.

Emler Swim School at 14440 124th Ave NE in Kirkland teaches in a 90° pool. Toddler classes take 6 to 35 months, with a parent in the water for the first levels, and there’s a Bathtime Babies class for 2 to 5 months. Enrollment is ongoing. Emler also has a school in Klahanie at 4506 Klahanie Dr SE in Sammamish, which local parents mention too.

Peter Kirk Pool at 340 Kirkland Ave is outdoors and summer only, with a fenced wading pool for kids 6 and under beside the main pool. The 2026 season ran June 1 to September 7. Kirkland’s summer swim lesson sign-up opened in mid-March for residents, so look for the 2027 dates in late winter.

Bothell

Northshore YMCA at 11811 NE 195th St has a six-lane indoor pool with drop-in recreational swim for members and group and private lessons.

Issaquah, Sammamish, and North Bend

Julius Boehm Pool at 50 SE Clark St in Issaquah has a 15-yard shallow pool, 3 to 4 feet deep, for recreation swim, with lifejackets to borrow. Recreational swim for members needs a reservation for each swimmer, opening at 6:00 a.m. two days before.

Renton and Covington

Covington Aquatic Center at 18230 SE 240th St, on our Maple Valley page, is worth the drive for a toddler who loves toys. Public swims on Saturday and Sunday afternoons put a giant octopus in the water, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings bring out the magic carpet, with the waterslide and rope swing open. Family swims are shallow end only, with midday times most days.

Henry Moses Aquatic Center at 1719 Maple Valley Hwy in Renton is an outdoor summer water park, closed now until summer 2027. It has a wave pool, lazy river, slides, and a zero-depth activity pool, plus Half Pint Splash and Play time for ages 6 months to 5 years.
